What’s the best way for my child to get involved here?
In short, attend! My strongest recommendation is to encourage your child to join a small group. Our small groups are grouped by age/grade/gender and are led by caring and trained adults. Small groups meet on Wednesday nights throughout the school year. If Wednesdays are not good for you, Sunday mornings are created with relationships in mind as well, with discussions, activities, etc.
What if my child doesn’t want to come?
There are many different reasons this happens: nerves, doesn’t know anyone, doesn’t believe in God, etc. We can promise that we do our very best to make this a place where your child wants to be but it doesn't always work. Sometimes students “hate it.” Usually, with a little consistency and rhythm of attendance, they come around. In short, hang in there and keep encouraging participation.
What curriculum or materials do you use?
Some of our Small Group and Wednesday night materials are written here at Church and some series are purchased from various companies. We like the supertexts of the Bible a lot, but we hit a whole range of passages, issues, and topics. Check back often on our website for our current and upcoming series.
What type of Bible should my child have?
The New International Version (NIV) Bible will do just fine!
We want our child to go on trips but sometimes money is tight.
What are your suggestions?
We offer scholarships for every trip so that every student can go. Simply check the scholarship option on the designated trip form. We will then follow up and send you a scholarship application in which there are different levels and ways to help you financially.
Am I allowed to come and see the youth programs?
Yes! At any time you are welcome to drop in and check out what’s going on with your child. Check out the programs under the Age Level page.
What areas could my child serve in while in the student ministry?
Tons! Worship, greeting, technical, drama, prayer, set-up / take-down, creative team, and more. Mission trips and events are also offered each year in which your child can participate!
How do I get involved?
If you desire to plug into the student ministry as a leader, call the Church office @ 678-783-1286 and Lisa will get you on track to do so! We’d love to have you along.
And finally, is the McDonough Christian Church student ministry a perfect place?
No. We make mistakes. Kids aren’t always impressed. Expectations can go unmet. We can have sound system problems. The bus can break down. The weather can get bad...you name it. But know this: Our goal is to give our very best to your child and with your help as parents, we just might see some great things happen.
